Cover crop strategy for Weed Suppression=HIGH BIOMASS

Now is the time to think about planning your cover crops if you would like to “add” a different weed management “tool” other than herbicides.

As weed resistance is increasing, complimentary strategies for helping herbicide performance are needed. Cover crops could be one of these strategies. Knowing that more information is needed countrywide, we could say that for some regions and occasions cover crops are effective weed suppressors.

The secret for that is to build a HIGH BIOMASS cover crop, which is related to the species, planting timing, and termination timing.

In this video you will see a big scale comparison between planting into terminated cover crops and planting green.

One of our GROW-IWM team members, Dr. Michael Flessner, from Virginia Tech, explains the benefits of PLANTING GREEN.
