A Deep Dive on Precision Spraying with the WEED-IT

As the industry of precision sprayers expands, farmers are sorting through a growing list of commercial options. For Jesse Brunner, the WEED-IT spray system has proven the best fit for his large no-till operation, Fifth Gen Farm, in Almira, Washington where he battles prickly lettuce, downy brome and marestail — and herbicide-resistance.

In the semi-arid environment of east-central Washington, Brunnerโ€™s diverse crop rotation of oilseeds and cereal grains includes summer fallow interludes. There, the WEED-ITโ€™s green-on-brown target spray capabilities have proven most valuable and cost-effective for him, he explains.

โ€œA lot of the time, weโ€™re spraying ground that is 90% or more bare ground โ€“ thereโ€™s nothing else there we need to spray, so by using the WEED-IT, thereโ€™s some very significant herbicide reduction, and thatโ€™s beneficial from both a cost perspective and an environmental perspective,โ€ he explains.

Brunner recently took GROW Outreach Specialist Claudio Rubione on a tour of Fifth Gen Farm and how the precision sprayer fits into his operation. The video below is a deep dive on the WEED-IT system and Brunnerโ€™s experience with it. Use the time stamps to follow along as Brunner lays out the systemโ€™s technical capabilities, performance, mechanical requirements, herbicide savings, costs and benefits.
