Cover Crops: Country-Wide Research Conclusions

Several coordinated field trials are being conducted across the U.S. to examine the benefit of cover crops for weed management. Researchers compared plots with no cover crops to plots with cereal rye terminated at a range of stages, including tillering (6 weeks before planting soybeans), boot stage (4 weeks prior to planting), and anthesis stage (two weeks before planting). Late-terminated cereal rye proved more consistent in suppressing weeds compared to early termination timings.
